Matsuchi

This tiny, unmanned station is number one in Shikoku

Ehime’s most southern train station is this unmanned station with one platform serving one track. Matsuchi means “clay-like soil” that covers the area.
At the time of opening in October, 1960 (Showa 35), it was the era when the so-called “railbus” was dominant and the 10-meter long Kiha Series 01 cars and Kiha Series 02 cars were running. Under the assumption that the length would be equivalent to two train cars, the platforms were made to be approximately 25 meters—currently the shortest platform in the entire JR Shikoku service area.
